Chicama is the longest left hander in the world and I'm telling you its alot of fun. It breaks for 2 km and it takes about 45 minutes to walk to the point where you paddle out. Sometimes it only takes 5 minutes to get back if your lucky enough to catch one wave the whole way.

We hung around for 2 swells, and stayed at 'El Hombre' which is right on the hill overlooking the break. It's full of Aussies and Dorris the lady who looks after you couldn't be nicer, although I never really got to talk to her as her english is as good as my spanish.

Getting to Chicama on the bus is a bit of mission in itself, you must get the bus from Trujillo from one corner in particular, the way i remembered it was cos there was a restaurante called 'wanka'. the bus takes about 1.5 hours and you really start wondering if your on the right bus. when you get to peurto chicama (marlbrigo) you will get hounded by the tuk tuk drivers to take you to 'el hombre'. Do it cos its a long walk other wise with board bags.

This town is really something else, no paved roads, alot of local dogs that look like they have seen better days and some really nice fish to eat. It's really cheep too. Problem is you really need a big swell for Chicama to work, if you were here with no waves it would be really really boring.

Fancy a left?
